HOLY MOLY!

What a game.
If you like suspense and drama well there you go, that was everything it was built up to be.
After Saturday we are 2-0 but not with out working for it. Our offense was a bit stagnant but in OT our lineman decided if it was meant to be it was up to them and I tell you what they dominated the line of scrimmage in Overtime.
The Defense came up big the whole game with the exception of one play and I was very proud of them.
If you don't know the rivalry between the two teams let me fill you in. Their coach (Kerry Briggs) is a very good friend and co worker of mine and his son Casey played on Gentry's 1&2 grade team when they were both in the first grade, Last year Kerry took over the Saratoga Springs/West Lake team. This started a small friendly rivalry that includes a "Bronze Boot" The story behind the "Bronze Boot" goes something like this, We both work at a Rock Quarry that is also a landfill.
Well one day while working this load of garbage comes in and sitting on top is the worlds most Gaudy full sized "Bronze Boot", It was the source of some practical jokes for a while then one day it came up that when our teams play each other that this eye sore has to sit in the losing teams coaches house on display for the next year. well thankfully Kerry has been the Boot holder for two consecutive years, yesterday it looked as if it may be coming to my house but thank goodness we pulled it out so Kerry and his wife need to clear the mantel for another year. Hot Dog!, Thanks team.
I will post the players of the game on Monday evening, it will be a tough decision because all our boys played very well. See you at practice.

What is going on?

My boys have lost the ability to tackle.
I need to fix this problem and soon, tonight's practice left me with a feeling of serious desperation.
Looks like we will be duplicating tonight's practice again tomorrow night. I really think we need to solidify our tackling before moving on

I have a two hour practice set aside everyday and if we don't get the kids there on time I am forced to stay later and I know that these kids need to get to bed so please help me out by making sure we start on time.

1st day of evaluations

Our first day went great, I know you parents that where there are thinking " those guys have lost their minds." not really, we learned a lot today. We learned who the muscle was of the team.
We learned who had the heart of the team, we learned what it means to never give up and to stick with it no matter what. We worked some evaluation drills that let us in on who the speedsters are and we met the giants and all their power. The lineman where exceptionally strong and that's how we like em'BIG and STRONG!
The kids worked up a sweat and we had fun, I know I did. In the end the coaches put there heads together and evaluated and worked on a plan for tomorrow, I am excited to see what everyday has to bring , and if its anything like the first day I think we will be ok. I hope the kids had as much fun as we did and I hope they sleep good for you parents tonight. Make sure you get the kids there tomorrow and either feed em early or not at all. From all us coaches have a good night and see you tomorrow!

Team uniforms

I forgot to mention this at the parents meeting on Tuesday but for our uniform we are going to request that every player wears Black short socks, ankle socks are what we are looking for but any calf high socks will work.
You have some time on this I just want to remind everyone that we would like all our kids to be uniform out on the field.

Thanks
Coach Cox

Practice field

We are suffering some set backs as far as a practice field is concerned, North Point has become very crowded with football teams in the last week or so.
I am trying to work something out and will keep everyone posted as things progress.
Also it looks as if everyone on our team has been fitted and is ready to go for practice on Monday, with the exception of Sage (who needs everything) and Grants helmet.
If you have any equipment needs please let me know so I can make arrangements.
Don't forget to pick up mouth pieces this week, you'll need them for Wednesday if you want to practice

Equipment pick up tonight

If you need your helmet and the pads for your pants, tonight is the night it goes from from 6:00 to 7:30 all grades.
please make sure you get down to the storage and get outfitted, we start practice on Monday.
My wife and I will be there to assist you if you think you may need help.

See ya tonight!

My self torture

My wife has taken the kids up to her brothers to roast some dogs and marshmallows but I am stuck at this computer trying to create an offense and defensive scheme that will enable us to become successful, behind a book trying to make up a practice schedule that is effective. This is a sickness I cant seem to find the cure for.
I haven't been sleeping well, continually trying to pre-place kids in my sleep in player positions from their camp performances realizing I still have two days to evaluate players further and make a decision of what ultimately will be the pieces that make up this team. I find myself going over my preparation, asking myself do I have what it takes as a coach to be subjective and open minded, or am I stuck in a rut and fighting the urge to replay last year even though last years season was fun yet not too productive? Do I have the ability to turn these boys into the players I know they have potential to be? Do I have the ability to guide my coaching staff down a path of unity and togetherness?
Man, I am going nuts waiting for this season to start. Come on Monday or Wednesday. Come on, Helmets and pads, Come on Jamboree, Come on Lone Peak!
I feel like a kid at Christmas waiting to open up his Christmas present.
With all this uncertainty, I am sure of one thing, I will look back in the years to come and remember the 2009 Lehi Youth Football 3rd Grade team, it is mine and my staffs job to make sure they remember us and their days with us as enjoyable and successful win or lose!

Go Pioneers!

Warming up

Quote from Dave Cisar's winning youth football book: " The most important thing to remember about warm ups is that TOO MANY COACHES WASTE TOO MUCH TIME ON WARM UPS. I often see kids age 8-10 in 90 % heat doing thirty minutes of cals and warm ups. For crying out loud, most prepubescent kids can bend their legs back behind their heads at that age. Even many high school teams have gone to short dynamic warm ups rather than extensive and time wasting routines. College teams always start out with dynamic drills before they do anything. "

Definition of Dynamic Stretching: Dynamic stretching, according to Kurz, "involves moving parts of your body and gradually increasing reach, speed of movement, or both." Do not confuse dynamic stretching with ballistic stretching! Dynamic stretching consists of controlled leg and arm swings that take you (gently!) to the limits of your range of motion. Ballistic stretches involve trying to force a part of the body beyond its range of motion. In dynamic stretches, there are no bounces or "jerky" movements. An example of dynamic stretching would be slow, controlled leg swings, arm swings, or torso twists.

Parents meeting

Team Rules:

Bring a water bottle to every practice with players name on it. We will have a designated area for them to keep their bottles. We do not want them taking their breaks with the parents. This will help in keeping them focused.

We will supply water for the games only.

Every player will need a physical paper from the doctor before the first game. They will not let them play if you do not have this.

At the football games there is a box where the players are. The parents are not allowed in this box. League Rules. Thanks for your help in this.

Every player is guaranteed 10 plays per game.

If your player misses 2 or more practices a week they will not play the first half of the following game.

Each player needs 2 mouth pieces.

Sprortz FilmZ are $8.00 per game. We will be doing fund raising for most of the cost. Right now it is around $67.50. per year per parent, lets work together to get this price down.

Our team moms are Christy Soper 801-766-8608 and Kristy Luce 801-766-1318
Please contact either of them to let them know if you want to do the Sportz Filmz.
